Ever since, the <strong>Outlook for Mac<\/strong> client had <strong>limited<\/strong> or <strong>no support<\/strong> for public folders.<\/p>\n<p>This article provides an update on how <strong>Outlook 2016 for Mac<\/strong> clients can access public folders in various topologies.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Current Scenario<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Outlook for Mac clients could <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> access public folders if:<\/p>\n<p>Co-existence with legacy public folders<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Legacy public folders deployed on <strong>Exchange Server 2010 SP3<\/strong> and user mailbox present on <strong>Exchange Server 2013\/Exchange server 2016<\/strong> in the\u00a0same organisation (Keep in mind, Microsoft doesn&#8217;t talk about Exchange 2007 anymore \ud83d\ude09 ).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Modern public folder access in Hybrid topology<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exchange Server 2013\/Exchange Server 2016 in hybrid mode with an <strong>Office 365<\/strong> tenant.\n<ul>\n<li><b>Scenario1 \u2013 Modern PF\u2019s deployed on-premises \u2013 <\/b>on-premises users, with mailboxes on Exchange Online, accessing modern public folders deployed in Exchange on-premises.<\/li>\n<li><b>Scenario2 \u2013 Modern PF\u2019s deployed in Office 365 \u2013 <\/b>on-premises users, with mailbox on Exchange on-premises as well, accessing modern public folders deployed in Office 365 tenant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Solution<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/kb\/3142577\">April 2016 update<\/a> of <strong>Outlook 2016 for Mac<\/strong> clients, along with changes in <strong>Cumulative Update for Exchange Server<\/strong>, will make public folders in above scenarios <strong>work<\/strong> for Outlook 2016 for Mac.<\/p>\n<p>The following table summarises access state for Outlook 2016 for Mac (post-April 2016 update) access to public folder deployments, as well as the minimum Exchange CU required to enable access (<em><strong>again, no Exchange 2007!<\/strong><\/em>):<\/p>\n<table class=\"posttable\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th>Public folder deployed on<\/th>\n<th>User mailbox on E2010 SP3+<\/th>\n<th>User mailbox on E2013<\/th>\n<th>User mailbox on E2016<\/th>\n<th>User mailbox on Office 365 (EXO tenant)<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Exchange Server 2010 SP3+<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Not supported<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Exchange Server 2013 CU13<\/td>\n<td>Not supported<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Exchange Server 2016 CU2<\/td>\n<td>Not supported<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Office 365 tenant<\/td>\n<td>Not supported<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<td>Yes<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>We\u2019ll take a look at one of the common scenarios and explain the steps required. TechNet has detailed steps on how to configure public folder access in hybrid, as well as for co-existence scenarios.<\/p>\n<h3>Scenario<\/h3>\n<p>EXO users accessing modern public folders hosted in on-premises organisation.<\/p>\n<h4>Pre-requisites<\/h4>\n<p>Make sure all of the following pre-requisites are met before making any changes to your configuration:<\/p>\n<h5>Client side:<\/h5>\n<p>Make sure the Outlook 2016 for Mac client is installed with the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/kb\/3142577\">April 2016 update<\/a>, at the minimum.
